from FEAR to FAITH pt2

-2 Timothy 1:5-7 (NLT)

5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. 6 This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

As I said in my last blog, I believe that fear is the wall between you and everything God has for you. Many believers have become paralyzed by our fear. In 2 Timothy 1, the Apostle Paul is writing to a guy named Timothy. Timothy at this point was a young man, and has no doubt been called by God. Yet, Timothy hasn’t yet been able to move from living in fear to living in faith.

I think that many of us can relate to Timothy. Maybe you struggle with the fear of man or with the fear that God won’t really do what He’s promised He will do. Whatever the fear is in your life, it is important to know that this kind of fear keeps you from walking into God’s destiny for your life.

On my last blog I wrote about the power we have as followers of Jesus. This week I want us to focus on the second thing God gives us, so that we would be able to move from fear to faith.

  1. LOVE

-2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love

Paul is saying that God has given us a Spirit of love not fear. We as Believers should operate out of love.

-1 John 4:16-19 (NLT)

16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other[b] because he loved us first.

The Bible is saying that perfect love cast out all fear. Now that you’ve received the love of the Father, you are able to give love to others. Whenever you do things out of love, then fear is removed.

I love this passage because the truth is the more we love God, the less fear we will have.

It is a matter of trust. When we realize that God will take care of us, it relieves our fear. Those you who have children would understand this. Children shouldn’t have to worry about having something to eat. Because they know that when they’re hungry they will get food. Their mom or dad will provide for them. And as believers we are children of God. If parents did not provide for their child, then then it could lead to trauma and fear in the child’s life. And because we are children of God we can rest in the promises that God gives those he loves.

Such as:

-Romans 8:28 (NIV)

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

-Ephesians 3:18-19 (NLT)

18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Paul is trying to tell us here that if we could just have a glimpse of how amazing God’s love is for us, then we would be able to walk in the fullness of the life God has for us. I honestly believe that your destiny will only be able to be as big as your belief of God’s love. So let’s move from fear to faith and confident living by trusting in God’s love for us.
